Hello and welcome to Romance Recipes! This week I have a special promotion for my wonderful readers! Crimson Romance is offering a few select titles for a fabulous low price of $1.99, but the sale ends today so hurry up and get yours! I will be introducing you to a few of those Crimson authors and their recipes! Two of my favorite things! Today I am bringing you author, Yael Levy, and her recipe for Chulent along with an introduction to her Jewish romantic comedy, Brooklyn Love. Please join me in welcoming Yael and savor her recipe for Chulent as you read about her new book!

Chulent (From the French chaud lent– hot beans)

Chulent is a chili-like stew which is meant to be heated slowly overnight. There are many variations, though this is the one my family enjoys nearly every Saturday lunch!:

1 onion

1/8 cup of canola or vegetable oil

8 cups of water

1 package of stew meat

1 can of tomato sauce

1/2 bag of beans

1/2 bag of barley

salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste.

Fry cut up onion in pot with oil. Add meat to brown. Throw in tomato sauce, water, beans and barley. Add spicing. Cook!

This is a great meal to have cooking slowly overnight in a crockpot, though a slow simmer in a regular pot would work, too.

For any young woman, it can be hard to follow the rules … especially when you’re falling in love. But for Rachel, Hindy, and Leah, it’s especially hard. Because as Orthodox Jews, they live by a whole different set of rules. No touching a guy—any guy!—before marriage. No dating—unless they are considering marriage—and then, only marrying a man who rates high on their parents’ checklists. What will it take for them to break out of their moms’—and community’s—expectations and follow their dreams? In Brooklyn Love, three Orthodox Jewish women who are caught between crushing guilt of defying their mothers and their desire to be “normal” are there for each other as they try to figure out who they really are … and what they really want.
