Hello and welcome to Romance Recipes where I am happy to introduce you to a new author and a new recipe! Two of my favorite things! Today I am bringing you author, Gemma Brocato, and her recipe for Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Ka-Bobs along with an introduction to her latest release, Hearts In Harmony. Please join me in welcoming Gemma and savor her recipe for Ka-Bobs as you read about her new book!
Thanks for having me over today to celebrate the release of Hearts In Harmony, Book 2 in the Five Senses Series. Even thought this book is about the sense of hearing, there is one memorable scene where Pippa Sanders invites Clay Mathers to dinner with her and her twins. She isn’t much of a cook, but manages to put together a decent meal. I’m sharing the Teriyaki Chicken recipe she used to impress him. It’s easy and one of my favorites.
Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Ka-Bobs
½ cup soy sauce
2 Tbls olive oil
1 tsp dry ginger
¼ tsp pepper
2 cloves minced garlic
Green Pepper cut in bite-size pieces
Onion cut in bite-size pieces.
Slice chicken into skewer size chunks and marinate with 1 can of water chestnuts for a minimum of 2 hours. Thread chicken and chestnuts onto skewers with pineapple chunks, green pepper and onion. Grill over hot coals until done.
Serve with rice and a green vegetable for a meal that even the pickiest people will love.
Sometimes life’s most simple melodies become songs of love.
Pippa Sanders’ life is filled with songs of leaving, longing and loneliness. Since the death of her husband, her children have been her world. She’ll do anything to protect them, including encasing her heart in ice until they’re college age. She’s made a practice of shying away from any relationship that could break her heart when it ends. And it’s worked so far.
Clay Mathers has made a temporary move to Granite Pointe, Massachusetts to help with his mother’s Christmas tree farm while she recovers from a stroke. Although his long-range plans don’t include staying in the small town, a little female companionship during his short residency would be welcome. While on duty as sentry against protestors at a military funeral, he finds Pippa visiting her husband’s grave, and begins a campaign to make her into a friend–with benefits.
What starts as a simple affair evolves to something more, something that changes the soundtracks of both their lives…the beating of two hearts in harmony.

“You just had to, didn’t you? Seriously, do you have any filters?”
Thank God he smirked at her attempt to lighten the situation. Or maybe he knew he’d put a picture in her mind that made her eyes cross.
The strength of her reaction shook her. The continuous zinging made it nearly impossible to speak. “I’m sorry, I got carried away.” She looked away from the heat in his eyes—afraid he’d see an answering desire in hers. If she kissed him again she wouldn’t stop. She pushed at his chest and this time he released her, letting her step back.
“You should go. I’m sorry.”
God, the tables had turned and now she couldn’t stop apologizing.
Clay put his finger under her chin, nudging her face up. She struggled breathe when she caught sight of his steely determination. Leaning forward until his lips brushed hers, he whispered, “This will happen. You go right ahead and bet the kids’ college funds on that. You want me, as much as I need you. I’ll give you time to accept the idea of us. But I want you remember something, spitfire. I’m an Army Ranger, a master strategist. The campaign begins now.”

Gemma’s favorite desk accessories for many years were a circular wooden token, better known as a ’round tuit,’ and a slip of paper from a fortune cookie proclaiming her a lover of words; some day she’d write a book. All it took was a transfer to the United Kingdom, the lovely English springtime, and a huge dose of homesickness to write her first novel. Once it was completed and sent off with a kiss, even the rejections addressed to ‘Dear Author’ were gratifying.
After returning to America, she spent a number of years as a copywriter, dedicating her skills to making insurance and the agents who sell them sound sexy. Eventually, her full-time job as a writer interfered with her desire to be a writer full-time and she left the world of financial products behind to pursue an avocation as a romance author.
Her gamble paid off when she was a 2012 Finalist in the prestigious Golden Pen contest for Romantic Suspense and she received contracts for her first and second book.
