Hello and welcome to Romance Recipes where I am happy to introduce you to a new author and a new recipe! Two of my favorite things! Today I am bringing you author, Daryl Devore, and her recipe for Shrimp coconut Curry along with an introduction to her erotic contemporary billionaire romance, FL.E.S.H.. Please join me in welcoming Daryl and savor her recipe for Shrimp Coconut Curry as you read about her new book!
This is the third book I written where the characters get to dine on my favourite food – Thai. I love the flavours and colours of the dishes and it’s such a wonderful change from “meat and potatoes”. Today’s recipe is from my erotic contemporary billionaire story – FL.E.S.H. It’s not exactly the same recipe as the one I describe in the book. This is a much simpler version, for weekday night cooking.
Shrimp Coconut Curry
4 scallions, whites and greens separated, chopped
Curry paste ***** see note below
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
6 oz coconut milk
2 tsp fish sauce ***** see note below
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
salt to taste
Cooked Rice – I prefer Jasmine Rice
***** Curry Paste – Depending on your level of heat in Asian cooking – chose either green (cooler) or red (hotter) curry paste. If you don’t like a lot of heat start with a teaspoon of green curry paste. After eating the dish, decide if the heat level was ok or could be higher. Next time you cook this recipe, change it to 2 teaspoons green curry paste. Experiment.
If you like heat – start with 1 tbsp red curry paste and adjust to your heat preferences.
***** Fish sauce – sorry no substitutions – is an amber-coloured liquid extracted from the fermentation of fish with sea salt. It is used as a condiment in various cuisines. Fish sauce is a staple ingredient in numerous Asian recipes. Available at most grocery stores.
In a large wok or skillet, heat oil – medium-high. Add white part of scallions and curry paste and sauté one minute. Add shrimp and garlic, season with salt and cook about 2-3 minutes. Add coconut milk, fish sauce and mix well. Simmer about 2-3 minutes, until shrimp is cooked through. Remove from heat, mix in scallion greens and cilantro. Serve over rice and enjoy!
When secrets conflict with dreams, love explodes.
After a mistake by a surgeon’s scalpel shattered Fuchsia Quinn’s dance career, she picked up the pieces of her life and moved forward. As the owner of a small, struggling dance school in a depressed neighborhood she supplements her income with a late night job at a dive bar. Haunted by the fear of humiliation, if her secret is revealed, her life was under control until the night he walked into the bar.
Peyton Lang, having run from a bad neighborhood, lives the lifestyle of a successful billionaire. Frustrated that his current multi-million dollar project is stalled, Peyton drops in to LEATHER-ICIOUS for a simple drink and late night entertainment. What he saw was a beautiful redhead. What he found was he wanted her.
After a lusty night with a hot pole dancer, Peyton and Fuchsia’s worlds are about to collide.
Scene Set – Fuchsia and Peyton are on his private jet. Chantal is the flight attendant.
Peyton held out his arm. “May I escort you to dinner?”
She linked her arm around his and walked the three steps to the table. He pulled out her seat, and slipped it under her before walking to the opposite side and taking his seat. Chantal placed a silver serving platter on the table and lifted the lid. Two containers rested on it. A green bowl was filled with rice, pink shrimp, and covered with a coconut milk sauce with sprigs of cilantro and a slice of lime. In a low white dish rested a mound of noodles mixed with slivers of bright orange carrots and covered with shrimp and chicken, mung beans off to the side, with cilantro, a wedge of lime, and a sprinkling of peanut bits.
The aromas of the spices tickled his nose. His stomach grumbled. “Which would you prefer?”
“Can we split? Half and half?”
Peyton picked up a serving spoon and scooped some Shrimp Curry into a bowl. “I was so hoping you’d suggest that. I’m hungry for both.” He handed her the bowl and served the remainder into his. After dividing the Pad Thai, he picked up his fork and stabbed a shrimp from the curry dish. His mouth watered waiting for the explosion of flavor he expected. The meatiness of the shrimp covered in the coconut milk filled his mouth. From the look on Fuchsia’s face, she was experiencing the same delight. Conversation stopped as they focused on the pleasures of the food: The silken sensuality of the coconut sauce, the tangy bite of the curry, which put a sheen of sweat on his brow, the citrus explosion of the cilantro and the crunch of the mung beans.
Peyton’s focus on his meal was interrupted by the simple fact that every move Fuchsia made heightened his sexual awareness of her. Watching her open her lips and slip a shrimp into her mouth and then wipe a dribble of sauce that had escaped and run down her chin was serene torture. He gripped the table to stop himself from leaping across and licking the sauce from her face. Lifting a forkful of noodles, she tilted her head back and let the dangling pasta slip past her lips. When she sucked the noodles into her mouth, a moan rumbled in the back of his throat.
After she’d eaten her last bite, she closed her eyes and shuddered with delight. He swiped a hand across his brow and adjusted his slacks. He poured another flute of champagne and swallowed a mouthful.
She opened her eyes, picked up her napkin, wiped her lips, and sighed. “That was the most incredible meal I’ve ever eaten.”
“You can say that again.” He swallowed another mouthful of champagne, but then cautioned himself to slow down before he got drunk.
